Martial artist and stuntwomen, Ming Qiu was born in Nanjing, China in Jiangsu province. She began practicing Wushu (chinese martial art) at an very young age. She then became a member of the Jianxu Wushu team and won several national and world-wide martial art competitions, including a Gold Medal for China. She moved to the United States in 1995, and competed for Team Paul Mitchell in the North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA) for 5 years. She was awarded Black Belt Magazine’s Competitor of the Year in 1999.
Ming Qiu got her big break in Hollywood when she had the opportunity to double for Nia Peeples in Walker: Texas Ranger. Since then she landed numerous roles in high profiles films like Charlie’s Angel (2000) and Kill Bill (2003), where she trained and stunt doubled Lucy Liu, in Mission Impossible 3 (2006) and Live Free or Die Hard (2007), where trained and stunt doubled for Maggie Q, and in Ultraviolet (2006), where she was the stunt double for Milla Jovovich. In the television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013-2019), she stunt doubled Wing Na Wen and for Scorpion (2015-2018) she stunt doubled Jadyn Wong.
Ming Qiu won a World Stunt Award for Best Aerial Work for a scene where she was part of the stunt crew that did the helicopter scene flying high over the ocean, where Ming (doubling Qiu) straddles and attempts to disarm the missile. The copter swerves, the performer falls and is rescued arm-to-arm by Diaz’s stunt double who is hanging from a strut by her legs. She was also honored by the Diamond in the Raw Foundation for her work as a stuntwoman in 2010.
She continues to divide her time between working in Los Angeles and in Asia and she teaches Wushu.
